Seating cushions and aids are utilised as pressure care products when sitting down. People who sit down for long periods of time may suffer from pressure sores or other pressure-related injuries and these products help with relieving these sores or preventing them from happening in the first place.
Seat Cushions
Some are as simple as the Air Ring Cushion which is simply an inflatable rubber cushion that’s ideal for short-term users requiring comfort and support. Others can be made from soft, open cell foam such as the All Purpose Cushion, which also has a convoluted surface for increased air circulation.
If you’re travelling for long periods of time sitting down or in a vehicle then the Obus Forme Seat Support is your best seating cushion. Made from lightweight polyurethane foam and it encourages proper alignment and evenly distributing body weight for extended sitting comfort. It also has a flexible section to suit a wide range of seating surfaces.
For spot protection in products such as arm pads, foot plates, head/leg rests and splints/braces there’s the Action Adaptive Cube Pad. It has multifunctional applications for both traditional and non-traditional seating challenges.
If you require something to distribute pressure evenly then the ACTION Polymer Commode Ring will be able to do that for you. The AKTON polymer, unlike fluid gel, doesn’t displace from areas requiring pressure relief and it isolates and protects areas where shear forces and pressure points are prevalent.
Sealed by a waterproof film the pad doesn’t promote bacterial growth making it ideal for multi-client use. Furthermore the polymer provides significant shock, vibration and impact absorption.
Back Support
Back supports are used to provide support and comfort for the spine as incorrect posture can lead to a wide variety of problems. The Swedish Back Support is a simple product that you can use to ensure that your spine and back are supported while you sit down.
It maintains correct posture by supporting sideways movement making it ideal for people who sit for long period of time. The Swedish Back Support has a open mesh that allows for increased air circulation as well as an adjustable nylon buckled strap to secure it to a chair or backrest.
If you want a rigid back support then the Therapod Back Support might be what you’re looking for. It has a contoured support to relieve back pain by realigning the spine and supporting correct posture. The contour can be altered via adjustable tensions traps and it’s covered in a soft comfortable foam. There is also a low back type available for those that want a low back support rather than a high type one.
However if you want something in between soft and hard then the Apollo Back Support would be able to do just that. It’s a medium density foam back support cushions that provides comfort and support for the back and spine as well as maintaining correct posture.
Wedges
The wedges are used mainly to maintain a normal lumbar curve while sitting and supporting correct posture. As previously mentioned incorrect posture can cause a wide variety of problems and it’s ideal for those who sit down for long periods of time.
It can be as simple as the Sitt-on Wedge which is a soft open cell foam cushion that’s designed to support correct posture and maintain a normal lumbar curve.
Otherwise there’s also the Coccyx Wedge which is a soft open foam cushion with a cutout area at the rear to assist in pressure relief on the tail bone (coccyx).
